Nottingham City Council has been granted Core Participant status in the Inquiry which started on Monday into the Nottingham Attacks of 13 June 2023.

Ian Coates, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Webber lost their lives in the attacks, carried out by Valdo Calocane, and Wayne Birkett, Marcin Gawronski and Sharon Miller were seriously injured.

The Inquiry will undertake a thorough, independent assessment of the events leading up to the attacks and provide recommendations for the future.

It was an event that shook the city, and Nottingham’s communities came together in their thousands at a vigil in the city’s Old Market Square to support the families of those affected. Over two and a half years on, Nottingham still remembers them.

Councillor Neghat Khan, Leader of Nottingham City Council said:

“It’s still so hard to imagine what the families of Ian, Barnaby and Grace, as well as those who suffered injuries, continue to go through. The hearts of everyone in Nottingham go out to them.

“These attacks will not be forgotten and this Council is fully committed to supporting the Inquiry. We want to understand what happened, and how we can collectively safeguard anything like this happening in the future. It is the best way we can honour those who tragically lost their lives and were seriously injured”.
