People in Nottingham are being invited to help create a new vision that will guide the development and growth of the city and its neighbourhoods in the years ahead.

The new Nottingham Vision will act as a route map to make sure it is ready to adapt and grow as a vibrant, prosperous and secure city, offering opportunities for local people that help them enjoy happy and healthy lives.

It will help determine the types of housing built in Nottingham, how transport and digital infrastructure can connect people to opportunities, and support major new developments bringing jobs and growth.

As the biggest city in the East Midlands, Nottingham needs to rise to today’s challenges of rapid advances in technology, the effects of climate change and the long-term impacts of the pandemic.

Being developed over the next five months the Nottingham Vision will build on the city’s national reputation as a place of study, research and innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial progress.

It will pinpoint major opportunities for growth and investment in homes, businesses and the infrastructure that helps our city function, meeting the future needs of residents and businesses alike.

Insights will be gathered through co-design workshops with businesses, community groups, voluntary organisations and health and education organisations, and a short three question online survey for the public – asking:

  1. What makes you feel at home in Nottingham?
  2. What could Nottingham offer to help you learn, work, or grow?
  3. What would make Nottingham a more welcoming and enjoyable place for you?

Nottingham City Council Leader Councillor Neghat Khan said: “This is a hugely important project which will influence the way our city develops and works for its people for years to come. It will shape what’s built here, how people can enjoy healthier lives and how Nottingham as a major regional city can grow.

“The new Nottingham Vision will be driven by inclusivity – it will support all our people and communities, giving them access to homes, jobs and opportunities that help them fulfil their potential. It will also celebrate a rich history and heritage that means so much to so many, our diverse communities and a significant visitor economy.

“Nottingham is home for us all and I encourage as many people as possible to share their views so we can build a better future together.”
