A scheme that has been working across Nottingham for the last 16 years is now to be rolled out to children living in the Bestwood Ward of Nottingham City.

The Nottingham Imagination Library works in partnership with Dolly Parton’s library to provide books to children from birth until their fifth birthday on a monthly basis at absolutely no cost to parents.

Availability for these free books will go to any child born after 1st August this year and parents can sign up through their health visitor. Books are sent address to the child through the post.

Since its introduction in Nottingham, over 13,000 children have benefited from free books and nearly 600,000 books have been mailed to under 5’s in Nottingham. The scheme is only possible because of charitable fundraising. For more details and to make a donation visit our web site at www.nottinghamimaginationlibrary.com#. The scheme is a partnership between Nottingham Rotary Club, Nottingham Citycare, the City Council and the Dollywood Foundation.

The Bestwood Scheme will be launched on Monday 22 September at 1.30pm at the Bestwood Family Hub near to the Southglade Leisure Centre.

“Reading is so important for our youngest children,” said Cllr Cheryl Barnard, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education and a trustee of the Nottingham Imagination Library.

“We are delighted to be able to deliver books to children in the Bestwood ward, an area of Nottingham that has not previously benefitted from the scheme.”

City Councillors and others will be visiting Nottingham Schools and nurseries during the week starting 22nd September in support of the Imagination Library which sends books free of charge to children in certain parts of Nottingham.

The aim will be to read to as many children as possible in the week to highlight the importance of reading. If you would like a councillor to visit your school or nursery email us on info@nottinghamimaginationlibrary.com.
