Woodthorpe Park’s new and improved facilities unveiled

Several revamped areas have opened in Woodthorpe Park after over £100k of improvements were carried out at the popular park.

The works, carried out by the Nottingham City Council parks and neighbourhood teams, have been funded jointly by FCC Communities and Nottingham City Council, following extensive consultation with park users, the friends group and local residents.

One of the main improvements is an enlarged play area with new equipment, including a slide and more swings, suitable for toddlers and junior school aged children. Other improvements include:

• The areas underneath play equipment have been resurfaced to improve their appearance, maintenance, and usability all year round
• The surfacing next to the café and play area has also been upgraded, to allow the area to be used all year round
• New picnic benches have been installed beneath trees
• A new enclosed dog free seating area has been introduced next to the café, complementing an open area on the other side of the café with bistro tables and chairs which is ideal for dog walkers
• A new trim trail style gym has been installed, inspired by the Woodthorpe regular runners and exercisers. 

FCC Communities provided £80,000 of grant funding, with the City Council contributing £35,000 from capital funding.

“Woodthorpe is one of our many Green Flag Parks in the city and we are keen to make sure this standard is upheld by constantly reviewing and improving our services and experience for visitors. I really hope the community enjoys the improved space and amenities we have created for them.”
