Nottingham’s tram network is looking to recruit another 30 new staff as it gears up for the expansion of services to Chilwell and Clifton.

Over the past 12 months more than 115 people have been taken on as drivers, travel officers, customer services advisers, infrastructure cleaners and in administration roles.

Hundreds of local people have also been employed by contractors working on the construction side of the project.

The latest vacancies are being advertised online through the City Council’s Employer Hub, which has been central to previous successful recruitment campaigns.

Maria Dobney, HR Manager at Nottingham Trams Limited, explained: “We’ve enjoyed a fantastic response to previous campaigns and we expect this one to be no different.

“Through the Employer Hub we’ve filled a wide variety of positions, including six new drivers since the start of this year. We are currently looking for more travel officers and infrastructure cleaners to join our team and we expect to need more drivers in the coming months.”

Around 60 per cent of the new recruits are from central Nottingham, with the remainder living in surrounding areas. Many of them are already working on Line One, supporting the introduction of more frequent services ahead of the opening of the new lines.

Paul Robinson, NET General Manager, added: “The figures show that the tram expansion is continuing to deliver a real jobs boost for the city, and we are delighted so many people want to be part of this exciting project.”

Councillor Nick McDonald, Portfolio Holder for Jobs and Growth at Nottingham City Council commented: “Ensuring that city residents benefit from the jobs created in the various construction projects happening in Nottingham is a clear priority, and our Nottingham Jobs Hub team are very actively working with employers to ensure this happens.

“The expansion of the network brings with it lots of opportunities, both directly as a result of the build and operation and also indirectly as companies locate to the city to benefit from the connected travel and enhanced infrastructure that helps them to do business.”
