Garden waste collections are about to finish for the current year but the City Council is consulting on extending the free service into November next year and there’s not long left to have your say.

Currently the collection of garden waste bins takes place every two weeks from the beginning of April until people’s last recycling bin collection day in October.

However consultation ends this Friday (19 October) on an option to offer the service into November in 2019 with one collection a month in both October and November rather than every other week. The service would remain fortnightly from April to September. There is also the option to continue the current fortnightly service from April to October only.

Councillor Sally Longford, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Energy and Environment, said: “Despite many councils charging their residents for garden waste collections, we’ve managed to continue to offer the service free, despite ongoing pressure on the Council’s budget due to reductions in Government funding.

“As only 18% of garden waste was being collected from November to March, we took a decision to two years ago to only provide the service from April to October.  However, we know that clearing up leaf fall continues to be an issue for some residents into November which is why we’re consulting on changes to the service in 2019.”

As well as the collection service, there are alternative options for managing garden waste including home composting and other disposal facilities for green waste such as the Household Waste and Recycling Centre on Redfield Road in Lenton: https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/bin-and-rubbish-collections/local-tip-waste-and-recycling-centre/
