Robin Hood will once again face his villainous nemesis the Sheriff of Nottingham at the Robin Hood Pageant  at Nottingham Castle.

The fun family event, from Friday 28 October until Sunday 30 October, is a unique opportunity to experience a taste of life in medieval times, with knights on horseback jousting, sword fights – and the chance to meet Robin Hood, Guy of Gisbourne and the evil Sheriff.

Visitors will encounter a host of weird and wonderful medieval characters, from minstrels and jesters to the eel woman and the terrifying King’s Executioner. Plus, they’ll enjoy demonstrations from a medieval blacksmith, wood carvers, weavers and fletchers.

The Castle Green will become an amazing live action battle ground and jousting arena, as the audience cheer on Robin Hood and his Merry Men as they spar with the Sheriff of Nottingham and his soldiers. Medieval warriors take to the stage and clash in deadly combat. The noble art of falconry will be demonstrated with birds of prey taking to the skies to demonstrate their aerial prowess and hunting capabilities.

In the midst of the atmospheric military camp and village there is a chance to watch entertainers as they tell the stories of old through theatre and the enjoyable antics of medieval stuntmen. Children can pick up a bow and arrow and try their hand at archery. Add to this a host of period costume characters such as Friar Tuck, Prince John and King Richard and the day truly becomes a feast of all things medieval.

Two atmospheric night jousts, on Friday 28 October and Saturday 29 October, extend the fun into night-time, with torch lit jousting battles of lance, sword and fire in a spectacular showdown.

Visitors can stroll around the illuminated medieval village with entertainment from minstrels and street performers, and enjoy a pint of medieval ale. Then, follow our heroes up to the Castle Green during an atmospheric torch lit procession. Fire artists and jesters will perform on the Castle Green before the evening draws to a close with the spectacular floodlight joust finale….

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said: “The Robin Hood Pageant is one of our most popular events and the exciting programme for this year should attract visitors from far and wide.

“Nottingham City Council is proud to bring this great Robin Hood event to the city. A family ticket is just £25 for the Daytime Event and £20 for the Night Joust, offering fantastic value for a fun day out.”

Knights of Nottingham said: Friar Tuck has been in training at the Beer Festival (picture enclosed)… Robin is a little worried as we haven’t seen him since!

He was last seen fleeing the Sheriffs men through the Castle gates, beer in hand, on his trusty steed….

Any information on his whereabouts would be gratefully received.”
