Robin Hood Energy Light Night takes place in Nottingham on Friday 5 February, with over fifty free activities to be enjoyed around the city.

Programme details have been announced and Light Night programmes are now available around the city, including from Nottingham Tourism Centre, and online at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/lightnight,  to help visitors to plan their Light Night itinerary.

This year, Light Night, with its theme of light and illuminations, will be sponsored by Robin Hood Energy, a perfect partner for this event. Robin Hood Energy offers low tariffs to help tackle fuel poverty and make energy more affordable for all households in England, Scotland and Wales.

Light Night runs from 4pm until late, with a focus on fun free events, many of which are put on by local businesses, community groups and churches. In 2015, the event drew 43,000 people into the city centre – an increase of 13,000 on the previous year.

Light Night will also feature free activities and entertainment across the city centre at indoor and outdoor venues.

Highlights include:

  • Free entry at Nottingham Castle and Brewhouse Yard, including illuminated grounds, live music and a chance to see the latest exhibitions
  • A Light Night Market along Smithy Row, with food, drink and crafts
  • Free live music performances, including gospel choirs, drummers, and ukulele players
  • High Pavement will be closed to traffic to allow people to enjoy the illumination of the Galleries of Justice, which will host a Light Night food, drink and craft market and entertainment including live music, plus free Sheriff’s walking tours
  • The chance to enjoy a Dance4 performance on a unique NCT bus journey
  • A sports village in the Old Market Square, where visitors can have a go at glow in the dark archery, basketball and tennis, plus enjoy animations and illuminations put on by City of Football.

A heart-shaped Light Night light-up badge will be available to buy for £2 from various venues, including Nottingham Tourism Centre on Smithy Row. All proceeds from the badge will go towards future Light Night events.

Cllr David Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council, said: “Light Night attracts thousands of people into the city centre for an exciting evening discovering a new side to the city. There’s a brilliant variety of events this year – truly something for everyone. Best of all, almost every event is free – something we’re really proud of”.

Chair of the company Cllr Alan Clark  said: “We at Robin Hood Energy are absolutely delighted, not only to be the first local authority owned energy supply company, but to be the first energy sponsor for Light Night. We operate as a not for profit company with low affordable tariffs. We believe that affordable energy should be a right not a privilege which is why our prepayment tariff is one of the cheapest on the market, giving power to the people to make a genuine choice.  We’ll be in the Market Square with fun activities so come and find us”.
