Nottingham City Council will soon be carrying out planned works on St Ann’s Street to Union Road and crossing Huntingdon Street to support improvement works for the city’s District Heating scheme.

Network pipes run below this area so it will be necessary to carry out roadworks at this location. Initial explorative works are due to start Wednesday 17 February for five nights and will only take place at night from the hours of 7pm to 6am. The works are being carried out during the February half term week, when there is less traffic, and at off-peak times to further reduce the impact of the works.

During this period Huntingdon Street will remain open and temporary traffic signals will be in use so delays should be expected.  Access to adjacent properties and local shops will be maintained.

The main works on Huntingdon Street will start from Friday 25 March for a period of five weeks, with the works being undertaken during normal daytime working hours. The works are expected to have a significant impact on traffic flows and will involve traffic diversions for northbound traffic on Huntingdon Street. Temporary arrangements will be:

  • Northbound traffic on Huntingdon Street will be diverted via Glasshouse Street
  • Southbound traffic will continue to use Huntingdon Street so no diversion will be necessary
  • Turning restrictions and changes in priority will apply on some of the side roads in the immediate vicinity of the works
  • Access to adjacent properties and local shops will be maintained.

Councillor Alan Clark, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Energy and Sustainability, said: “These works are part of our ongoing maintenance works for the District Heating Network to ensure that the system keeps operating efficiently.  Works include upgrades to existing pipework and additional infrastructure to allow for further connections to the system in the future.

“We are scheduling the work to take place at a quieter time to reduce their impact as much as possible. We would like to thank people for their patience whilst these works take place.”
