A man and a woman have been convicted after pleading guilty to money laundering and selling counterfeit goods totalling over £75,000.
Naeem Javed Malik, 40, and Jasminder Kaur Dosanjh, 28, both of Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford, were sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on February 2nd who together have been involved in the sale of counterfeit goods since 2013.
The pair sold knock-off designer goods including designer footwear, clothing, make-up and accessories through Facebook and Gumtree accounts. The police became aware of the pair due to numerous complaints to Trading Standards from customers who bought these counterfeit items.
Dosanjh pleaded guilty to 13 offences of possessing counterfeit goods, while Malik plead guilty to 13 offences of possessing and selling counterfeit goods as well as an offence of money laundering almost £76,000.
Richard Antcliff, Chief Trading Standards Officer for Nottingham City Council commented: “It is important to bring these prosecutions to court when large amounts of counterfeit goods are being sold as they undermine the legitimate economy within Nottingham and consumers can spend their hard earned cash on products that do not meet quality standards and present safety concerns.
“This was only possible thanks to the help of citizens bringing these counterfeit products to our attention.”
Malik has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, 250 hours of unpaid work and ordered to repay £88,561 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Dosanjh was sentenced to complete 18 months of Community Order which includes 250 hours of unpaid word and a strict curfew imposed.
