A Nottingham City councillor has thanked emergency services for their reaction to an incident earlier today in Sneinton.

Police were called to Manvers Court, in Manvers Street, this morning after reports of a suspicious package on the ground. The Nottingham City Homes-managed block was temporarily evacuated while a controlled explosion was carried out. The package turned out not to be dangerous.

Councillor Linda Woodings, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Planning and Heritage at Nottingham City Council, said: “I’d like to thank the emergency services and our partners at Nottingham City Homes for their swift response today and professional handling of a difficult situation, as well as the residents of Manvers Court and the wider community for their understanding and co-operation.

“I’m glad that this suspect package ultimately turned out not to be a threat, but it will have been unsettling for people living there and I’d urge anyone with information to contact the police.”
