On Saturday 15 June 2019, the Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay returns to Nottingham’s Victoria Embankment, where spectators and a live BBC Two audience will have the chance to cheer on 15 elite race teams (14 international and 1 British) as they compete for Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifier points.

Due to weather conditions, the race has now become a duathlon. The duathlon event will provide mass participation and elite athletes with the fantastic race experience they require… in spite of the weather challenges. There will still be opportunity to see international athletes up close and share the excitement of the races with Olympic ranking points on offer.

While the race format has changed, the other key attractions and entertainment will still get underway on the Embankment from 12 noon

The day promises to be fun for all the family, with up to 15,000 spectators set to experience a fantastic balance of competitive action and free activities at the Event Village.

Family activities start in the Event Village from 12 noon and offer something for all ages and abilities. Nottingham Forest Community Trust, Activate Multisport Zone, British Triathlon Skills School, Canals & River Trust and British Cycling will all be in attendance; offering a range of fun activities.

The day is not just about elite races. There will be competitions for budding triathletes at all levels throughout the day. The Fan Zone offers great views of the swim, allowing spectators to watch their friends, family and elite athletes dive into the Trent at the start of each race and leg.

Spectators will be up close to the run and cycle routes too, giving them a full flavour of what Mixed Relay Triathlon is all about. There will also be a big screen and catering outlets to make sure nobody misses out on any of the action and everyone gets a fantastic experience for free.

One of the highlights for the locals will be the appearance of double Olympic swimming gold medallist, Becky Adlington, making a return to her home city. Becky is Official Ambassador for the Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham and will complete her very first triathlon taking on the individual sprint distance event alongside 50 aspiring participants, wanting to be part of Becky’s Wave. Watch Becky’s Wave from 12:00pm

The P20 Grandstand is home to the best seats in the house, overlooking the main stadium area to give spectators a great view of the swim start, transition, bike course, Changeover Zone, and finish. There is also a big screen so you can continue to watch all the action after the athletes have past you 28 times during the race.

Teams competing in the elite race are from Australia, United States, France, New Zealand, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, Canada, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and of course Great Britain. The GB athletes are now confirmed as Georgia Taylor-Brown, Sophie Coldwell, Ben Dijkstra and Alex Yee.

Cllr Dave Trimble – Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culturesaid: “It’s been a fantastic summer for international sport in the city so far and we are very excited to welcome Triathlon this weekend, hot on the heels of Cricket World Cup and Nature Valley Open Tennis. We love having this event on Victoria Embankment. It has a real family feel with something for all ages. There is plenty of sport to watch at all levels and lots of fun activities to try and stalls to visit. Although the elite race is the main event of the day, do try and get down to cheer on the GO TRI competitors and those taking on their first triathlon – what an amazing place for a first taste of competing in the sport! I wish them all good luck.”
