Nottingham City Council remains committed to celebrating Armed Forces Day and will support events on Saturday 24 June this year with free venues and funding.

In previous years the council has organised and funded the event on behalf of veteran groups – now it is inviting groups to organise events and use council venues such as Wollaton Park free of charge. It is also making funding available for groups to stage community events so people can get involved in this important occasion.

The council is also supporting the larger regional events that are due to take place in Newark and Derby this year, and is keen to be the host city for this in forthcoming years. Armed Forces Day will also be incorporated into the Lord Mayor’s Parade, which will be taking place on Saturday 24 June.

This year, Nottingham is also hosting two Freedom of the City Parades for both the East Midlands Air Squadron and HMS Sherwood and the council has begun planning how to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One next year.
